Simple Garbanzo Beans Savoury

This is an easy snack to make at home with Garbanzo beans or simply called Kabul channa!

This would serve about 2 people.

Ingredients required:

  1. Garbanz Beans[Kabul Channa]100g
  2. Mustard 1Tsp
  3. Urad Dal 1TSp
  4. Curry Leaves 5–6
  5. One medium sized onion finely chopped. Alternatively you could use 3 shallots.
  6. Turmeric powder 1/2 Tsp
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Garam Masala 1/2 Tsp
  9. Oil 1Tbsp
  10. For garnishing if needed- grated coconut a fistful.

Procedure:

A. Soak the kabul channa overnight or for about 6 hours until the channa swells up. (wash and soak it in drinking water until the channa drowns well in the water)

B.Cook the soaked channa in a pressure cooker for about 7–8 whistles if being cooked alone, alternatively you can place it in a container on top, while cooking the rice in the pressure cooker for which 3–4 whistles would suffice.

C.Once the channa is cooked. Take a pan in which you plan to cook the dish and heat 1Tbsp of oil in it, once it is hot saute ingredients 2–8 for about a minute, fry well until the onions are light brown in colour. Add the Garam masala and Salt.

C. Finally add the channa after draining the water if any Fry for about 2–3 minutes.

D. Switch off the stove and you could garnish it with the grated coconut.

E. Eat!
